Training is an important Coalition activity because it is key to identifying persons living in a trafficking situation and to facilitating their rescue. Our training is motivated by the fact that when a service provider comes across a person who is being trafficked (or has exited a trafficking situation), often the window of opportunity to help that person is so small that if the service provider does not know how to identify human trafficking and/or does not know how to respond appropriately and effectively after identification, that person may slip away and never present again. Accordingly, we offer training:

  1. to educate participants on the issue of human trafficking with a specific focus on the indicators of human trafficking; and
  2. to develop the participants’ ability to identify a person in a trafficking situation and know how to respond appropriately (including best practices for service professionals to support and refer clients to specialized services).

We are continually building upon and improving our training program. Our trainers come from various sectors and work to ensure that the material is relevant to your team.

TARGET GROUPS

  1. TRADITIONAL SERVICE PROVIDERS (front line workers employed in health care, social welfare, mental health, justice system, emergency housing, and corrections, etc. Traditional service providers also include community group volunteers.); and
  2. NON-TRADITIONAL SERVICE PROVIDERS (employees of a specific sector who through the provision of a particular service may come into contact with persons in a trafficking situation. Examples include: educators, employees of co-op / community housing, employees of the hotel and hospitality sector, employees of the transportation sector, etc.).

Training sessions for traditional and non-traditional service providers are offered in a 3-hour format. All sessions require a minimum of 5 participants to proceed, otherwise registrants will be notified and added to the next scheduled training session (typically the following month).
